Ubuntu Cola - Fair Trade and Co-operative

ubuntu-children
Ubuntu Cola - the real alternative to Coke!

ubuntu can, The first Fair Trade cola in the UK

Taken from Ubuntu's website:
Ubuntu Cola was the first cola in the UK to get the Fairtrade Mark (back in 2007) and it fizzes with Fairtrade sugar from the Kasinthula Cooperative in Malawi and from the Kaleya Cooperative in Zambia. This means that every time you drink an Ubuntu Cola you are directly taking part in the Fairtrade movement – contributing to long term development and real opportunities for African communities.

Great refreshing taste

Ubuntu tried lots of different recipes to get exactly the flavour they were looking for– a completely new, great tasting and refreshing cola, made with real cane sugar. They wanted a cola with personality and a great flavour that people would love to drink. And Alston Wholefoods thinks that they have managed just that!
They took the recipes to lots of people in London, Birmingham, Bristol and Manchester and eventually everyone agreed they had found the right one.

Ubuntu think they must have done our homework well, as now people are drinking Ubuntu Cola in the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Norway and Belgium! And Alston Wholefoods stocks it too!!

That's the great taste of Ubuntu.

ubuntu_bottle What is Ubuntu?
Ubuntu: [ubu ntu] n. S African. humanity or fellow feeling; kindness.

Trans: "I am what I am because of who we all are"

"Ubuntu is the essence of being human. I am human because I belong, and my humanity is bound to yours." Archbishop Desmond Tutu

Ubuntu binds together many sub-Saharan societies. It’s a give-and-take concept where everyone depends on everyone else; it links everyone and everything is shared. Nobody is left wanting.

Hear Nelson Mandela talking about Ubuntu

We are Ubuntu
"Our idea is to base our company on the concept of Ubuntu – each person participates so that each benefits.  We want to make Fairtrade accessible to more people: our delicious refreshing soft drinks will enable more people to join in the Fairtrade movement and support the African communities where the ingredients are grown.
And that’s not all. Each year we’ll give at least 15% of our company’s profits to the Ubuntu Africa Program. Ubuntu is all about sharing and we passionately believe in sharing our success with the people who are the very soul of the company: the farmers and their families growing the sugar cane, and the people of Malawi.

For Dry skin:
Beat 3 eggs together with 2 cups of brown sugar and 1 cup of milk. Leave for 15 mins. It may peel off, but wash it off with clean water.

As a Moisturiser:

Food of the Fortnight - Appleby Brie

appleby_brie,Appleby Brie
The name of Appleby doesn't really come to mind when you think of Brie!! Places in France who have made Brie cheese for centuries might come more to mind. And the town of Appleby is far more famous for it's yearly horse fair, which dates back centuries too!!

This brie is superb. We think it is better than any of the French varieties!! Try it on it's own with biscuits or make it into something even more delicious.

Ok so for this fortnight's recipe. All of the ingredients can be purchased from the Shop! We look forward to your comments!

BAKED BRIE WITH ROASTED GARLIC AND SUN-DRIED TOMATOES
Try this Baked Brie with Roasted Garlic and Sun-Dried Tomatoes recipe
1 whole head garlic
1 sprig fresh rosemary
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 (12-ounce) round of brie cheese
3/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes packed in oil, drained and cut into thin strips
1/3 cup pine nuts
3 tablespoons finely shredded fresh basil

Crostini* or apple slices

Garnish: Sprigs of fresh basil or rosemary, imported green and black olives

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Cut off 1/4 inch of pointed end of head of garlic (save small pieces for another recipe). Place cut side up in a piece of aluminium foil. Place rosemary on top. Bring sides of foil up to make a deep bowl, but do not enclose garlic completely. Pour olive oil over top of garlic. Bake for 40-45 minutes in preheated oven. Cool.

3. Squeeze garlic so that the cloves pop out of their papery jackets. They should be creamy. Smash them and spread on top of brie (including some of the rosemary). Place brie in ovenproof dish. Top with tomatoes and pine nuts. Increase oven temperature to 400°F (205°C).

4. Bake brie until warm and softened, about 13 to 18 minutes. If topping is getting too browned, cover loosely with aluminium foil during last portion of baking.

5. Sprinkle slivers of fresh basil on top. Surround with crostini and/or apple slices. Garnish with sprigs of fresh herbs and, if using, drained imported olives. Provide a spreading knife.

6. Enjoy!!

This brie is produced by Appleby Creamery It is made with vegetarian rennet and produced from pasteurised milk from local dairy herds

Just for fun and a test Im including a pict that I found of the launch of the current shop.

Quiz..... name the people in the picture?

awlaunch
So, I'm (Alix) happy with this theme. What does everyone else think? I have had one comment that the words are not easy to read. If this is the case for you too, would you please email me and confirm whether it is the actual font that is hard to read or is it the size....... or of course both.

All the content on the site can be changed. Most of the writing I have just put in as holding text. I need a script or copy writer!! Web design I can do, writing I am challenged!!

Like for instance: What shall we have as our "strap line"? At the minute it is
Delivering quality food, one person at a time…
I'm sure we can do better than that!!

Also if you are reading this text, would you please sign up for the newsletter, so that I can check that it works!! Sign up box is in the side bar to the right of this text!
